Police look again into Huhne claim

Prosecutors have asked police to make further inquiries into allegations that Cabinet minister Chris Huhne tried to dodge a speeding penalty.

Essex Police delivered an evidence file last month following claims that Mr Huhne asked his ex-wife Vicky Pryce to accept penalty points on his behalf.

But a Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said yesterday: "We have asked Essex Police to carry out further inquiries. Our review will continue when those inquiries have been completed."

Ms Pryce claimed in a newspaper interview in May that the Energy Secretary had tried to pass on his points to her to avoid losing his driving licence.

The speeding offence is alleged to have taken place in 2003 when the then-MEP was driving home from Stansted airport after flying back from the European Parliament.

Liberal Democrat Mr Huhne - who has since left Ms Pryce for another woman - has denied the allegations.
