Police investigate ‘murder-suicide’

Fife Police have confirmed that the sudden deaths at addresses in Findlay Crescent, Rosyth, and in Letham Way in Dalgety Bay are related.

It is understood that a 26-year-old mother of two was murdered in Rosyth by her 41-year-old ex-boyfriend, before he took his own life shortly afterwards at another property.

The couple are said to have been living together as partners before they split several weeks ago.

Members of the public alerted the police to an incident in Findlay Street yesterday at 1am.

It’s believed the 26-year-old victim had moved there, after splitting from the home in Dalgety Bay she shared with her long-term partner, after their relationship broke down.

But police believe the jilted 41-year-old went to her new home in Rosyth in the early hours of yesterday morning and killed her

It’s not known if the couple’s children were there at the time of the fatal attack.

The ground-floor flat in Rosyth has been cordoned off as police  forensic teams searched the scene for clues. An incident van had been set up in the street outside the block of four properties as plain-clothed officers spoke to locals.

Police were also carrying out an investigation at the man’s three-bedroomed semi-detached home in Dalgety Bay, where his Vauxhall Corsa car was taken away by officers.

Neighbours expressed their shock over the tragedy. One said: “I didn’t know the young lassie as she’d only moved here a couple of weeks ago, but she would always say ‘hello’. The first thing we knew that something had happened was when we got up this morning and the police were in the street. Chief Inspector Chris Stones said: “Inquiries are still ongoing and police wish to reassure that there is no risk to public safety. Efforts are under way to contact next of kin.”

Police said that they had received numerous calls from the public concerned by the large police presence.

A spokesman said: “Police are keen to talk to anyone who was in the Findlay Street, Rosyth, area around 1am yesterday and who heard any disturbance or saw anyone leaving the area around this time.”
