Police hunting vandals who damaged nearly 30 cars at Aberdeen dealership

GRAMPIAN Police are hunting the vandals responsible for causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars parked at a major car dealership in Aberdeen.

Almost 30 cars were badly damaged in the vandalism attack at the Arnold Clark garage in the city’s Whitemyres Place at the weekend.

A force spokesman said: “Grampian Police are investigating damage caused to vehicles parked outside a car dealership in Whitemyres Place. Nearly 30 cars were damaged in the incident, which happened around 8.30pm on Saturday. The value of the damage has not yet been calculated but it is expected to amount to tens of thousands of pounds.”

He added: “We are following a number of lines of enquiry including the examination of CCTV systems. However we would be keen to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the people who are responsible for this senseless crime.”

Meanwhile, the force also announced that two men, aged 20 and 22, have been charged with 17 counts of graffiti vandalism across Aberdeen city centre which caused damage estimated at £10,000.

A force spokesman said: “This was an excellent piece of work by the Vandalism Proactive Unit which has helped to clear up 17 outstanding vandalism cases across the city. We will continue to identify those involved in such acts, take appropriate action and report them to the relevant authorities.

“Crucial to this is information from our communities to identify the very small group who are involved in such behaviour, and we would urge anyone who has information about vandalism in their area to come forward.”

He added: “The pair will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in due course, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. “
