Police hunt man who hit taxi driver and passengers

DETECTIVES hunting a man who assaulted two women and a taxi driver near Perth city centre today revealed that he had been in a city nightclub before the attacks.

The women, who were passengers in the taxi, were attacked in North Methven Street when they went to the aid of the taxi driver after he was assaulted by a man outside his cab in the early hours of Sunday, 7 April.

The attacker had got into the taxi, already occupied by the two women, but was told to leave by the driver after he began verbally assaulting the women. He attacked the driver and then punched and kicked the women in the head and body when they tried to intervene.

A spokeswoman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland said: “Officers are carrying out significant reviews of CCTV footage from the area and are confident that the man responsible had been in the Loft nightclub prior to the incident.”

She continued: “There were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident. Local nightclubs were emptying and several people were making their way home on foot or by taxi. The review of CCTV footage is providing us with some very positive lines of enquiry but we still need anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the incident, or who may recognise the man responsible, to get in touch with us.”

The man being sought is described as being white, in his late twenties, 5ft 6 in height, of slim build with a slim face with stubble on his chin and short dark hair. He was wearing a blue short sleeved shirt, blue denim jeans, and dark coloured shoes.
