Police hunt indecent attacker of nine-year-old girls in Gorbals park

TWO schoolgirls have been indecently assaulted by a man in a Glasgow playpark.

Extra patrols have now been drafted into the Gorbals area where the attack took place. The man approached the youngsters, both aged nine, in Gorbals New Park on Southside Crescent at about 5:15pm on Saturday

He initially chatted to them before assaulting them, then ran off towards Cathcart Road at Laurieston Road.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Burnett, from Gorbals CID, said yesterday: "This was obviously very distressing for the girls and indeed for their families.

"We want to trace this man as a matter of urgency.

"It is possible that he was hanging around the park for some time during the day so were are keen to hear from anyone who saw him or recognises his description.

"Thankfully incidents like this are rare but we would like to remind parents to be aware of the whereabouts of their children, especially during this period of good weather when children are outside playing." The man is described as dark- skinned, possibly of Asian appearance, between 30 and 40 years of age and had a beard.

He was wearing a small round skull cap and a light blue shirt and was carrying a rucksack thought to be black.
