Police hunt gunman

POLICE have stepped up their search following an armed raid on a bookmakers in Lanarkshire.

Detectives are hunting a man who threatened the staff – a 45-year-old man and 20-year-old woman – at Coral bookmaker in Shotts on Friday with what appeared to be a firearm. He demanded money and ran out of the shop with a three-figure sum of cash.

The weapon was not fired and nobody was hurt but the shop staff were very distressed.

The culprit is described as a 6ft tall white man, wearing a dark jacket, a black woollen hat and a black scarf covering his face.

It is thought that he made off in a small, dark-coloured car.
