Police hunt for man who assaulted and robbed woman, 87, in her home

AN 87-YEAR-OLD woman was assaulted and robbed in her own home, police said yesterday.

A man forced his way into the pensioner's house in New Edinburgh Road, Uddingston, Lanarkshire, after posing as a workman.

He then assaulted her, demanded money and fled with a three-figure sum of cash and other personal belongings.

Detective Constable Craig Wait, of Bellshill CID, said: "This is a shocking crime to have been carried out on an elderly woman in her own home. She has been shaken by this incident and it's remarkable that she wasn't injured.

"I am asking anyone who can assist in providing information to come forward and help."

The suspect is described as being white, around 25 years old, about 5ft 8in, with slim build and short, dark hair. He was smartly dressed in dark clothes and spoke with a local accent.
