Police hunt cyclist after crash injures jogger

A jogger suffered serious head injuries after a collision with a bicycle in Livingston.

Police have appealed for information to help trace the cyclist.

The 49-year-old man was involved in the incident on the Loan footpath at its junction with Fergus Avenue at around 9am yesterday.

He was initially taken to St John’s Hospital in Livingston before being transferred to the Western General in Edinburgh, where his condition is described as serious.

Police are keen to trace the cyclist, who did not give his details at the time of the collision.

Sergeant Neil Inglis said: “We’re eager to trace the cyclist, described as a man in his early twenties, and any witnesses as soon as possible in the hope they can help us establish the full circumstances.”

Officers in West Lothian are also appealing for witnesses after a crash involving a Kawasaki motorbike and a Kia Ceed.

The incident happened around 5.15pm on Friday on the A71 East Calder at the junction with the B7031 Camps.

Both vehicles were damaged and the A71 was closed for around an hour to allow emergency services to attend and the road to be cleared.

A 41-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

PC William Mark said: “Although a man sustained serious injuries they are thankfully not life-threatening, and we’re urging all road users to ensure the utmost caution when using junctions.”
