Police hit by racism claims

ALLEGATIONS of racism by Lothian and Borders Police have led to four misconduct procedures against staff in the last four years.

A total of 43 allegations of racist behaviour were made between April 2007 and August 2011, 40 against officers.

The figures, released under freedom of information laws, showed five cases were reported to the procurator fiscal but resulted in “no proceedings” being mounted.

A police spokesman said: “Considering the number of encounters between the police and public, the number of such allegations is very low.”
