Police hail response to Betty appeal

POLICE investigating the death of Betty Brown, whose body was found in woods nearly eight months after she died, today said they received a "good response" after taking their appeal for information on to buses she may have used.

Human remains found in the Longtown area of Cumbria on January 18 were identified by forensic experts as belonging to Mrs Brown, 56, last seen alive in the capital in May last year.

Cumbria Constabulary and Lothian and Borders Police officers travelled on all X95 buses between Edinburgh bus station and Carlisle, handing out leaflets and photographs of Mrs Brown.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Ashton, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We have had a good response on the buses. We also had one phone call about a potential sighting.

"It is vital that anybody who may have seen her or has information contacts us."
