Police hail fall in antisocial behaviour and break-ins

CRIME has fallen across East Lothian, with marked improvements in incidents of antisocial behaviour, housebreakings and violent attacks.

New statistics show that thefts from homes have dropped by 36 per cent, with violent crime down 28 per cent.

The figures relate to the period between April 1 and October 31 last year, compared with the same period in 2011.

Superintendent Phil O’Kane, East Lothian area commander, welcomed the areas of improvement but warned against complacency.

He said: “We’ve recorded a reduction in crime across the county and there are some particular areas benefitting.

“Overall, it’s a very positive picture and certainly very positive from the antisocial behaviour stats at minus 15 per cent.

“But we’re never getting complacent about it.”

Hate crimes have increased by 44 per cent, while attempted housebreakings have soared by 75 per cent.
