Police find 288 weapons

POLICE carried out more than 7000 weapon searches during a nine-month period, with nearly 300 proving positive, new figures have shown.

Officers found a total of 288 people carrying weapons after conducting personal searches in Lothian and Borders between April and December. Police figures revealed 7070 searches in the force area, a seven per cent fall on the same period last year. The number of positive searches fell 11 per cent during the same period.
