Police dragged off by drunken driver

A PAIR of police officers were dragged along a road by a suspected disqualified motorist after he drove off during a traffic stop before striking a wall.

The officers were thrown clear after the impact but were uninjured following the incident in Bonnington Road in Bonnington at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

The officers suspected the 28-year-old man was disqualified from driving and stopped him to check his details.

When the officers asked him to turn off his engine, he started to drive off, dragging them along before the collision.

The suspect ran off on foot and was caught by the officers, who later charged him with driving without a license or insurance, drink driving, failing to stop, and police assault.
