Police divert Forth Road Bridge traffic for 'incident'

COMMUTERS faced major delays and disruption on the Forth Road Bridge this morning due to a "police incident".

Traffic heading towards Edinburgh was being diverted and northbound traffic was held up for a time due to the incident, which occurred on the north side of the bridge. Fife Police, however, refused to reveal the nature of the incident.

A spokesman for bridge operators the Forth Estury Transport Authority said: "There were diversions on the north end of the bridge for a Fife Police incident.

"The incident was not on the bridge itself, but on the A90 road north of the bridge.

"We were requested to hold northbound traffic and a diversion was put in on the Ferry Toll slip road. Police also implemented a diversion on the north end. Police have not told us the nature of the incident."

The diversions were lifted by around 7am.
