Police check CCTV in hunt for rapist

A WOMAN was found "extremely distressed" after being raped on her way home from a night out with friends.

The woman left a bar in Newmilns, East Ayrshire, and was walking to the nearby town of Darvel when she was seriously sexually assaulted by a man in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Strathclyde Police said the woman was found in an extremely distressed state by a passer-by at 1:25am but did not need hospital treatment.

Detective Sergeant William McDicken said: "We have been checking CCTV, as well as speaking to people who were in the area at the time."
