Police catch sex attacker at crime scene

A SEX attacker was caught when he made a return visit to the club where he picked up his victim.

Khashul Alam, 32, who uses the alias Nazmul Islam, was arrested when staff tipped off police.

They had been asked to keep a lookout after CCTV showed Islam dancing with the mother-of-three on the night he indecently assaulted her, a month earlier.

At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, Islam was jailed for 44 months. Judge Lady Dorrian also ordered that illegal immigrant Islam be deported at the end of his sentence.

Islam, of Albert Street, Edinburgh, had been accused of trying to rape the woman while she was asleep and drunk on 23 April, 2008.

She woke and rushed into the street and a passing car took her to a police station.

Islam's guilty plea to a reduced charge of indecent assault was accepted.

Defence QC Jim Keegan told the court that Islam was ashamed of what he had done.
