Police boost park patrols to tackle yobs and theft

POLICE are carrying out increased patrols in the city's Braidburn Valley Park in a bid to tackle antisocial behaviour and thefts in the area.

The extra weekend patrols were started in response to concerns from residents.

Police are also set to highlight the issue of theft from cars again this year following a number of break-ins to vehicles last year.

A police spokesman said: "With the onset of the good weather and the increase in members of the public using these areas, it is anticipated that the opportunities for thieves will increase."

On Friday, a dog walker was slashed by a knife-wielding mugger in Braidburn Valley Park at 8am.

Christopher Kerr, 61, had been walking his two-year-old cocker spaniel in the park when he was seized from behind by the man with a 12-inch knife.
