Police arrest two men after seige folllowed by fire in house

Two men have been arrested by police after allegedly barricading themselves in a house and setting fire to it.

Police were called to the property in Moorhill Crescent in Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, to a report of a “disturbance”.

The occupiers barricaded the door and refused to let officers in before setting a fire inside the property.

The 50-year-old householder, who was suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow.

His friend, 22, was alleged to have been seriously assaulted during the disturbance and he was also removed from the property and treated at the Victoria Infirmary. Both have since been released from hospital.

The fire is said to have caused “considerable damage”.

The two accused, aged 22 and 24, were removed from the property – the first at 9:30pm and the other at 11pm.

The 24-year-old was taken to hospital in Paisley suffering from smoke inhalation and minor injuries. He was released after treatment. The 22-year-old suffered smoke inhalation and is detained in Glasgow’s Western Infirmary.
