He had suffered severe injuries to his face, head and body and a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death was from the head injuries.

Mr Atkin was well known in the town as he socialised regularly and used a wheelchair to get around.

Mr Atkin's body was discovered by two female friends at about 3:15pm on Wednesday.

Extensive inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

Police believe Mr Atkin's circle of friends could play a crucial role in helping to identify a suspect as there was no sign of forced entry into his flat.
