Police appeal for onlookers after man allegedly attacked

DETECTIVES want witnesses to an alleged serious assault which put a man in hospital.

The alleged incident happened at around 1am on Saturday in Crewe Road North.

The 24-year-old was walking with his girlfriend along Ferry Road, and had crossed the road at the traffic lights at the former BAE Systems building now owned by Selex, on the west side of Crewe Road roundabout.

The pair then walked into Crewe Road North where they were approached by a group of five youths, comprising three males and two females.

At this point it is alleged the victim was assaulted. He is currently being treated in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Three teenagers, aged 15 and 17, have been arrested and charged. They appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, and were released to appear at a later date.

A police spokesman said: "The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital, and we are keen to trace any witnesses."
