Police appeal to death crash caller

POLICE investigating a car crash which killed a Royal Marine and his sister are trying to trace a potential witness who called them anonymously.

Newlywed Captain Michael Strachan, 28, of Arbroath-based 45 Commando Royal Marines, and his sister Dr Maia Strachan, 26, died after the powerful TVR sports car they were in crashed around 8:10pm on 17 November.

It happened just 11 days after Capt Strachan married partner Kirsty McDonald, while his sister, a marine biologist, was planning to wed her boyfriend Alex Pithie. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the crash on the B979 Stonehaven to Netherley road in Aberdeenshire.

After Grampian Police appealed for witnesses, an anonymous caller contacted them. Inspector Ian Kirkwood said: "A lady phoned our service centre."

The caller, who said she stayed in Inverurie, is asked to call 0845 6005700. The siblings were laid to rest yesterday.
