Police appeal after young woman attacked by man in Glasgow

Police are appealing for the public's help after a woman was assaulted in the Charing Cross area of Glasgow last week.

Around 10.15pm last Monday, January 22, a woman of 26 was attacked when she was walking in Newton Place, just off Sauchiehall Street.

She was grabbed from behind by her attacker and dragged for a short distance before three men came to her aid by pulling the man off her, causing him to make off in an unknown direction.

The man is described as white, in his 50s, and slim with grey hair wearing a long black anorak.

The men who assisted the woman are described only as being in their late 20s or early 30s.

Detective Constable Ashley Convery, Drumchapel CID, said: “This was a very upsetting experience for the young woman who was heading home. She is very distressed by what happened and indeed it took a few days before she could come to police to say what happened.

“I am very keen to speak to the three men who came to her aid as I am sure it is because of them that this attack didn’t escalate and also they will have information that will assist us greatly in catching the man responsible.”
