Police appeal after shopkeeper robbed at knifepoint

Police today appealed for witnesses after a shopkeeper was robbed at knifepoint at an Edinburgh convenience store.

The incident happened last night at the Day Today shop in Boswall Parkway.

A 23-year-old man was working behind the counter, while customers shopped , when a man entered and produced a knife before demanding money.

He jumped over the counter and stole a Tupperware box containing a three-figure sum of cash along with a quantity of international telephone cards worth around £200. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who can help trace the robber

He is described as white 20-30-years-old, between 5ft 2ins and 5ft 5ins tall with a stocky build and wearing a black hooded top with the hood up, light-coloured trousers, black Converse-style trainers and a black balaclava covering his face.

Constable Alistair McLeod said: “This was a frightening experience for everyone within the store and we are conducting local enquiries to identify the suspect. “A male matching his description was then seen within a garden in Pilton Avenue around 9pm before making off.

“We are now asking anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in either Boswall Parkway or Pilton Avenue on Sunday evening between 8pm and 8:30 pm to contact police immediately.”Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our investigation is also urged to come forward.”
