Police appeal after man's river jump

A man who was hit by a taxi and then jumped off a Glasgow bridge has died, police confirmed today.

Gerald Currie, 38, was struck by a black Hackney cab as he sprinted across Bunhouse Road in the west end of the city at around 1.05am.

He managed to get to his feet, ran off and jumped into the nearby River Kelvin.

Emergency services recovered him from the water and he was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Western Infirmary, where he died a short time later.

Police appealed for witnesses as they try to establish the circumstances leading up to Mr Currie's death. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.
