Polar film is a hot ticket

AN extraordinary film of Captain’s Scott’s 1910 voyage to the Antarctic is to be screened in the Capital.

The Great White Silence used footage captured by Herbert Ponting, the journey’s official photographer and cinematographer, and has been restored by the BFI National Archive using the latest photochemical and digital techniques.

The screening, being held at the Filmhouse on January 17, will mark the 100th anniversary of Scott’s party reaching the South Pole, and will be accompanied by a new score by composer Simon Fisher Turner.
