PM speaks out about murder case

Prime Minister David Cameron has urged the public to help police solve a vicious murder which has shocked Britain.

Stuart Walker, 28, died of “horrible injuries” in what detectives believe was a targeted attack.

His body was discovered just before 5am on Saturday on an industrial estate in Cumnock, Ayrshire. Police have played down claims he was killed for being gay, but said no clear motive had been established.

Labour MP Sandra Osborne (Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock) said yesterday: “My constituency is in a state of shock following the brutal murder of a very popular local man, Stuart Walker.”

Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons, she condemned “unhelpful speculation” about why Mr Walker was killed and encouraged people to come forward with information.

Sending his condolences to Mr Walker’s family, Mr Cameron said: “It was once said that the police are the public and the public are the police.

“The police cannot solve crimes without the help of the public and I hope everyone will co-operate in the best way they can.”

Police have been continuing to carry out door-to-door inquiries and trawl CCTV footage of the area in a bid to trace his killer.
