Plea to delay new crossing

CAMPAIGNERS have urged the Scottish Government to drop plans for the new £2 billion Forth crossing, accusing MSPs of being "hell-bent" on the project.

The ForthRight Alliance said it believed the joints on the current Forth Road Bridge could still be dried out, allowing it to be used for decades more.

The intervention came ahead of a debate on the project in the Scottish Parliament today.

The group's Lawrence Marshall said: "Let the third inspection of the main cable take place next summer to allow a more informed decision to be made."
