Plastics firm grabs first green award

Midlothian Council has sponsored a Green Business award as part of efforts to support and encourage investment and business growth.

Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce’s annual Enterprise Exhibition and Awards Ceremony took place at the new £60 million state-of-the-art building of the Roslin Institute at Easter Bush.

With more than 200 delegates attending, the exhibition and awards ceremony was the largest business-to-business event in the region.

The winner of the new Green Business award is McLaren Plastics Ltd, an injection moulding company based at Pentland Industrial Estate, Loanhead.

With moulding operations running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the 35 staff manufacture a range of plastic carton handles, plugs, plastic closures and technical components to customers in the UK, the EU, north America and Asia.

Bruce McLaren, the firm’s Quality and Environmental Manager, said: “Re-using our own waste plastic is very important to us, and we also buy in re-processed material where the part allows for this.”
