Planners to give go-ahead for 200 flats on two sites

TWO separate plans that would see nearly 200 flats being built in the north of the city are set to win approval.

Foremost Properties has applied for permission to build 86 flats on a site at McDonald Road.

And C&W Assets wants to build another 98 residential flats and two commercial units at a site between Poplar Lane and Salamander Place.

Council officials have recommended that both schemes get the go-ahead, despite dozens of objections to the McDonald Road plans.

In a report on the McDonald Road application, the council's head of planning, John Bury, said: "The proposal complies with the development plan and non-statutory guidelines. The principle of residential use at this location is acceptable. The layout follows the historical spatial pattern of development, whilst the design, modern in appearance, takes reference from both the immediate and wider character of the area."
