Piping Live! 2010 Festival: Bagpipes' youthful appeal

EVE Muirhead, the British women's curling skip and ambassador for the music festival Piping Live! 2010, has called for more Scots youngsters to take up the bagpipes.

She is presiding over the Glasgow festival this year and hopes it will provide a showcase for the instrument.

Muirhead, 19, a member of the Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Pipe Band, said: "I've been playing the bagpipes since I was a child. I hope any young people that think the instrument is old-fashioned will come out and see for themselves how modern the music is and how young pipers are taking it forward."

The festival, in August, will include concerts by Capercaillie and the Battlefield Band, as well as free events in George Square.
