Piper follows father's lead

THE son of the first "lone piper" to stand on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle and play a lament at the close of the Military Tattoo will this week follow in his father's footsteps after becoming the first former soldier to be invited back from retirement to take on the same role.

Organisers of the event have asked retired Major Gavin Stoddart to take on the role of his late father, George, as a fitting tribute to mark the tattoo's 60th anniversary.
