Pilot cleared over tragedy

A CITY pilot who watched his girlfriend fall to her death after the wings came off her glider in mid-air has been cleared of any blame for the incident.

Bruce Duncan and Amy Barsby could not have known that a bolt had not been properly fixed in place when they put the light aircraft together, air accident investigators said.

They added that "it was not possible" to have detected the problem.

Ms Barsby, 25, who lived in Edinburgh with Mr Duncan, died at a gliding contest in Bicester, Oxfordshire, in August 2010.
