Pictures: Thousands take part in Edinburgh Marathon
Organisers said around 27,000 people had signed up for the weekend marathon festival which started on Saturday with a 10km and 3km junior race.
The main event was the 26.2 miles, which was won by Tola Lema of Ethiopia, who narrowly missed out on the course record time of two hours, 15 minutes and 26 seconds. Kenyan Risper Kimaiyo became the first African to win the women’s race with her time of 2:35:58 – which made her 11th overall.

Hide AdThe race, in its 11th year, has been recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as one of the top 75 in the world. Race director Neil Kilgour said: “This is Scotland’s first and only event to attain any form of IAAF label and we’re proud that we’ve helped build the marathon festival into a major running occasion.”
