Scotland’s leading marathon athletes, Freya Murray-Ross and Andrew Lemoncello, joined more than 8,000 runners taking part in the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.

London Olympian Murray-Ross and 2008 Beijing Games runner Lemoncello sought host-nation victories in their respective races over the tough 10km course, which started and finished in Holyrood Park.

However, they both came in second after England’s Tom Humphries and Jess Coulson beat them to the finishing line. Newly married Murray-Ross, who was a late Olympic Marathon replacement for the injured Paula Radcliffe, delayed her honeymoon to take part.

She said “The crowds were fantastic all around the course and gave me a great reception, which I really enjoyed.”
