Here’s the story about the one that did not get away.
Edinburgh angler Jim Reid was named winner of the Savills Malloch Trophy yesterday, awarded for landing the largest salmon caught on the fly this yuear in Scottish waters and then safely returned.

Mr Reid landed the colossal fish, estimated to weigh close to 50lb, while fishing in the River Tweed. It is one the biggest salmon caught using rod and line in recent years.

Measuring more than 4ft in length and with a girth of 25in, it took Mr Reid 40 minutes to reel the fish in under the guidance of local ghillie Ian Farr.

The UK record, set on the River Tay in 1922, weighed more than 60lb.
