Physio Kyrsta's Soweto dream comes true

A CITY physiotherapist has realised a career-long ambition by volunteering in one of the world's most impoverished regions.

Kyrsta Macdonald-Scott spent three months in South Africa helping local disabled children in Soweto.

Bringing with her 2000 she had raised through fundraising activities here before she left, the Western General employee worked in a daycare centre offering her expertise.

She said: "I always wanted to volunteer abroad and this was the perfect opportunity to help.

"In the short term I was able to improve the quality of life for children with a range of disabilities.

"Hopefully I will have made a longer-term impact as teachers and parents who I trained will continue to support the children."
