Peter and the Wolf gives Jarvis Cocker a classical role

POP star Jarvis Cocker is turning to classical music - as narrator of Prokofiev's Peter And The Wolf.

The singer, who recently announced he would reunite with Pulp for shows next summer, will perform with the Philharmonia Orchestra at London's Royal Festival Hall next month.

Other noted rock stars who have performed the role in the well-loved story include David Bowie, and Gavin Friday released an album of the work with art by his friend, U2's Bono.

Cocker said: "I love telling stories and this one has the added bonus of having a fantastic musical accompaniment.

"I'm also honoured to be following in the footsteps of such luminaries as David Bowie, Sean Connery and Dame Edna Everage by narrating this classic tale for young and old."

The four performances, on 29 and 30 December, will be accompanied by a showing of an Oscar-winning animation of the story and specially commissioned poetry from Simon Armitage.
