Pervert used website to snare girl, 14

A CONVICTED sex offender who posed as a teenager on a social-networking website to groom a schoolgirl for abuse was jailed for 38 months.

Registered sex offender Greg Dawson, a former chef at an Edinburgh hotel, had originally faced five charges, including an allegation of raping the schoolgirl, but the Crown earlier accepted his guilty pleas to two offences of grooming and having unlawful sexual intercourse with the girl.

Dawson, 34, had unprotected intercourse with the 14-year-old victim three times after telling her he wanted to get her pregnant.

A judge told the sex offender at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday that he would also be kept under supervision for a further seven years.

Dawson met the girl on the website Bebo by posing as a teenager. They eventually met and had sex at her home, where the girl's mother caught him in the house.

He earlier admitted having unlawful sexual intercourse with the schoolgirl and breaching protection of children and prevention of sexual offences legislation. Dawson was placed on the sex offenders' register.
