Pervert gets eight months for sex abuse

TWO mothers wept in court as a pervert, who had plied their sons with alcohol and sexually abused them, was locked up for eight months.

Joseph Johnstone, 67, initially gave the 15-year-olds tea and biscuits when they visited at an Edinburgh address but later gave them alcohol.

At an earlier hearing fiscal depute Melanie Ward told Edinburgh Sheriff Court the accused had supplied both boys with alcohol, taken them upstairs to his bedroom and shown them pornographic films.

One of the boys went downstairs. Johnstone performed a sex act on the other. About two days later the boys returned and, again after alcohol had been drunk, Johnstone took the other boy upstairs and performed sex acts on him.

First offender Johnstone admitted abusing the two boys between May and June last year.

Johnstone will be under licence for 12 months following his release from prison and will be on the sex offenders register for ten years.
