Perth man on attempted murder charge

A MAN, 32, appeared in court yesterday in connection with the attempted murder of a husband and an attack on his wife.

Craig Gibson, of George Street, Perth, is alleged to have tried to murder Edward Townsley in his home on 5 January by repeatedly stabbing him.

It is alleged he attacked Mr Townsley in Angus Court, Perth, by running at him while brandishing a knife and struggling violently with him before stabbing him to his severe injury.

Gibson, who appeared in private before Sheriff Paul Arthurson at Perth, is also alleged to have attacked Shelley Townsley. It is alleged he assaulted her by running at her and seizing her by the throat with his hand, and then pushing her to the floor.

Gibson made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
