Pentagon pays to destroy war memoir

The US Defence Department has paid £29,658 to destroy 9,500 copies of a former Army intelligence officer's memoir the Pentagon said threatened national security.

A Pentagon spokesman said officials watched as copies of Anthony Shaffer's book Operation Dark Heart: Spycraft and Special Ops on the Frontlines of Afghanistan were destroyed.
