Pensioner in dog bite scare

A PENSIONER has called for dogs to be kept on their leashes after she says was bitten on the arm during a morning walk.

Gerda Rankin was walking in the Braid Hills area when a golden retriever leaped up at her and cut her upper arm.

The dog was among four being walked by their owners through the woodland area around 10.15am yesterday.

The 72-year-old said she required first aid from park rangers for her arm, which was bleeding, and a tetanus injection, and has since reported the attack to police.

She said: "I was just walking along and this thing leaped up on me. You should be able to go for a walk without getting pounced on by dogs running amok off their leads."
