Pensioner floored by Lottery jackpot

A RETIRED dinner lady was so shocked after finding out about her million-pound win that she had to be driven home from the newsagents by a kindly shop assistant.

Pensioner Annette Brown, 77, of Bo'ness, scooped a 1,151,496 share of the Lotto jackpot on Wednesday 13 October, making her the 2,500th lottery millionaire.

The former Bo'ness Academy dinner lady discovered she had won on Thursday after going to her local newsagent to check the numbers.

She would normally check her Lotto numbers during the live TV draw but her daughter and her daughter's partner and baby were staying and watching something else on television, so she held on until the following day.

She said: "I was anxious to get the tickets out of my purse and into the bin so when the shop assistant told me to come through the back I was completely taken aback. Then she showed me the slip telling me how much I'd won.

"I was in so much shock that the kind shop assistant had to drive me home."

She has two sons and two daughters, who have seven children between them aged between nine months and 24.

Brown said the first thing she planned to buy with her winnings was a new carpet.

She added: "I haven't decided exactly what I'm doing with the money yet but will certainly be taking a trip to Canada to see my relatives. I've already been ten times but this time I can travel in real luxury."

She said she had no intention of moving but certainly planned a major shopping spree to buy herself and family some treats.

She said: "At least two of my grandchildren are nearing 17 so I know they'll be after a new car and I'm sure I'll have plenty of requests from the others too."
