Pedestrian mown down by car killed

A PEDESTRIAN has died after being knocked down during rush hour traffic.

The 35-year-old stepped out from behind a G4 Security van to cross the road when he was struck by a grey Fiat Punto.

Police and paramedics were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened just before 9am yesterday in South Gyle Crescent.

The road was closed for around two hours as police investigated. Officers are now appealing for the driver of the van and other witnesses to come forward.
