Pedestrian killed in Edinburgh Bypass crash

A 47-year-old pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car on the Edinburgh City Bypass.

The man was walking on the road when he was involved in the collision with a Vauxhall Insignia, which stopped and remained at the scene.

He suffered serious injuries and died on the way to hospital.

The incident happened at around 7.20pm yesterday on the eastbound carriageway of the Edinburgh City Bypass at the Straiton Junction.

The road was closed for around four and a half hours after the collision.

Police Scotland appealed for information about the incident.

Sergeant Brian Jones said: “We are currently trying to establish why the man was on foot and what he was doing on the carriageway and we are keen to hear from motorists who were on the road at the time.

“Similarly anyone with any further information relevant to our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
