The victim, who is in her 50s, was struck at the Marionville Road roundabout in Meadowbank by a No 34 at around 2.15pm yesterday.

"When the ambulance crew got there she was able to get on to the stretcher with their help, so it didn't look like she was badly injured."

Meanwhile, a road was closed in Penicuik after a car and a van crashed on Edinburgh Road outside Beeslack School at 2.50pm yesterday.

Two women, aged 53 and 51, were trapped in the car for around an hour while fire crews with hydraulic gear cut them free. The fire service said both women were fitted with neck braces and had neck and shoulder injuries, although their condition was not thought to be serious.

Both were taken to the ERI. A spokesman from Lothian and Borders Police said: "Police continue to urge drivers to drive with caution during the winter conditions."
