Pedal power for primary

A NEW bike shed has been unveiled at a primary school to encourage pupils to cycle to school.

Studies have shown that a high proportion of pupils at St Matthew's Primary School in Rosewell were taken to school by car, prompting Midlothian Council to promote greener methods of transport.

But on the day the new bike shed was unveiled, 81 per cent of pupils either cycled or scootered to school.

Councillor Wilma Chalmers said: "Previously, storage consisted of chains against a school wall. I hope that the excitement of the launch will keep up the momentum of cycling to school."
