Peckham's delis for sale

THE chain of Peckham's delicatessens across the country have been put up for sale, leaving 31 staff redundant and another 140 at risk of losing their jobs, it was reported today.

The chain has already sold three of its 14 shops at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh, Lenzie, and Newton Mearns. Now joint administrator Zolfo Cooper has said that the remaining 11 stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen are up for sale.

The business is understood to have come under increasing pressure due to the expansion of Waitrose supermarket chain. It had previously been valued at 3.5 million.

In its latest accounts for 2009, Peckham and Rye made a profit after tax of 54,719.
