Peace Island yoga guru investigated by Indian officials over 'tax evasion'

A TINY Scots island owned by a controversial yoga guru is at the centre of a huge international cash investigation.

Swami Ramdev was gifted Little Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde two years ago by a Scottish couple. He vowed to turn the uninhabited 700-acre spot - nicknamed Peace Island - into a yoga retreat.

But the rocky outcrop and Ramdev's other foreign assets are now being investigated by officials in India.

The country's Enforcement Directorate has launched an investigation into the spiritual leader and his cash. Officials are currently seeking details about assets and investments from all available official sources, including the Reserve Bank of India.

Ramdev's mega business empire - including Little Cumbrae and other yoga camps - will all come under scrutiny.

The Enforcement Directorate has joined forces with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, which both operate on behalf of the finance ministry.

Sources revealed they are looking into allegations of tax evasion, export and import violations and money laundering.

Officials suspect Ramdev is sifting cash through a company that exports to the US market - despite most of its products being banned in America.

Peace Island was meant to become a pioneering yoga retreat, aimed at attracting faithful followers from around the world.

But the site has remained untouched despite plans to build a meditation centre with room to accommodate up to 200 people at a time.

Ramdev has denied any wrongdoing.
