A male and female PC on foot patrol were last night being treated at Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital after being hit by the car at 9.50am on Christmas Day.
Strathclyde Police confirmed that the officers were struck by the vehicle when they were patrolling a series of road closures on the A77 near Kilmarnock .

Hide AdAlthough neither suffered life-threatening injuries, the female officer is in a more serious condition.
She was last night expected to be kept in hospital, while her male colleague was likely to be discharged.
A force spokesman said that the incident happened during a series of road closures on the stretch over a four-hour period.
